Story

The story begins when Matty was a young boy.

His mum would take him and his siblings to the coast in her purple Volkswagen campervan, hours away from where they lived. Away together for an escape, a holiday, a safe haven, their happy place.

Leaving home at 18 years old, Matty spent 9 years travelling. He lived in hostels, vans, caravans, tents, tepees, treehouses, motorhomes, cars, cabins, home stays and the occasional sleeping bag setup on the street.

Van life always stuck out as a favourite. The freedom of being on the road, limited only to how much fuel he could afford at that time.

Matty then decided to follow his dreams and built his own home on wheels to travel through Europe for one year, before selling it to move to Australia. Then once again creating his own home on wheels to adventure through Australia.

Then in Byron Bay, Matty met Gina. They bought a 35 year old little yellow van together, a Ford Spectron. They collected and reclaimed timber pallets from the Byron Bay and Ballina industrial areas, and worked on this build in their free time, on the street in front of their home. The end result being simple and sweet, full of love.

After documenting the process of building this van together, word spread, and a friend asked to buy it off them. Reluctantly they shared a price, and to their surprise, they agreed to purchase it with no negotiating. This is how we ‘accidentally’ started a van fitout business.

Since then, enquiries have continued coming through, and here we are.

Byron Bay Van Fitouts is a passion, a labour of love. Now a collective of like minded souls, in love with life on the road.
